Raw is a five-channel video installation inspired by research conducted in Hamburg, Germany. The work depicts a woman’s body covered by a white veil, a trope found in sculptural tradition, and 19th century tableaux vivants. The ethereal image is disrupted by screen glitches, and the flooding of a red liquid which relinquishes the body of its covering. In a pool of red, the now nude body, embraces itself with raw meat.

This work critiques the historical portrayal of women in sculptural tradition and their subsequent evolution into performative expressions. The barrier of the veil is removed to reveal a woman free from the constraints of male idealization. Through this act, the power, beauty, and rage of the female flesh is unveiled, presenting an alternative perspective that contradicts the male-dominated conventions of art.
